2nd Responders kick-off event - June 21st, San Diego
2nd Responders.org is a growing nationwide community and online network dedicated to supporting our 9/11 First Responders by expanding awareness about their critical health issues and raising funds for their benefit.

This past Saturday (June 21st) San Diego 2nd Responders gathered at George Martin’s A Journey for 9/11 finale event.

One of the speakers at that event was John Sferazo, a true 9/11 Hero. He was an ironworker with experience in rescue and recovery, and he worked on The Pile for a month. This Saturday he shared with 2nd Responders his experience of working on The Pile and the profound effect that experience had on him and his family. John is now critically ill; his body is contaminated with toxics; his lungs are filled with dust. In the face of his own serious health issues, he sees himself as exceptionally fortunate because he has his family, a pension, and health insurance. He is now a tireless advocate for those 9/11 First Responders less fortunate than himself. Many of our 9/11 First Responders are not only critically ill, many have lost their health insurance coverage and they are struggling financially.

After the event, 2nd Responders kicked off it's grassroots, nationwide campaign of walking for 9/11 First Responders to be presented by Unite In Peace called 2nd Responders Steps to Heal for 9/11 Heroes. 2nd Responders walked and flyered from Marina Park North to Little Italy to Balboa Park. 2nd Responders spoke to many wonderful people along the way who showed genuine concern and surprise about our 9/11 First Responders’ health issues. Join us. Be a 2nd Responder.
